GwyrddNi is a community-based, community-led climate action movement that brings people together in five areas of Gwynedd to discuss, share and act locally to tackle climate change.
Chris Roberts is the GwyrddNi community facilitator in Dyffryn Ogwen. GwyrddNi supports community groups to develop the 10 ideas contained in the Community Action Plan for Dyffryn Ogwen. This includes growing food locally, encouraging the use of green transport, holding an annual festival and much more. You can contact Chris by emailing Enable JavaScript to view protected content.
GwyrddNi is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund’s Climate Action Fund, and is delivered by 6 Gwynedd-based social enterprises in partnership; Partneriaeth Ogwen in Dyffryn Ogwen, Cyd Ynni in Dyffryn Peris, Yr Orsaf in Dyffryn Nantlle, Cwmni Bro in Bro Ffestiniog, Ynni Llŷn in Pen Llŷn and DEG.
In 2022-2023 GwyrddNi hosted Community Assemblies on the Climate in these five areas. The Assemblies were an opportunity for people to come together to discuss, listen, share, talk, learn and decide together what they – as a community – want to do locally to tackle climate change.
Each house in the five areas received an invitation to join the Assemblies, and from those who showed interest, 50 people were chosen from each area who were as representative as possible of the local population. An education program also worked with schools in each of the areas, with local school children adding their ideas. You can read more about the Assemblies process in our report: GwyrddNi - From Assemblies to Action.
By the end of the process, each community had chosen a series of ideas to prioritise, including some from the school children. You can read these project ideas in the Community Climate Action Plans on our website: https://www.gwyrddni.cymru/en/cynlluniau-gweithredu/
GwyrddNi has now received four and a half years of further funding from The National Lottery Community Fund's Climate Action Fund to further support the communities' work: £500,000 of funding will be available for the projects, divided equally over the five areas, in order to continue to implement the ideas from the Action Plans.
GwyrddNi's education work will also continue, with a range of activities and an offer to collaborate available to schools and colleges in the five areas, and plans to develop learning opportunities for adults are underway.
There will now be an opportunity for people from the five areas to be part of implementing the projects from the Action Plans.
